Live translation

Someone speaks in their language; you read it — and hear it — in yours. You only choose the language you want. FarryOn works out what they're speaking by itself, even when it changes mid-conversation.

Before you start

1Open live translation

On the home screen, open the menu ⋯ and tap the translate icon:

Menu bar with the translate icon marked
Live translation screen with four numbered controls

The translation screen:

1Choose language — the language you want to read and hear. 2Start / stop listening. 3Microphone — Glasses or Phone. Glasses is chosen when they're connected. 4Text only, no voice — show the translation without speaking it.

2Choose your language

Translate into list with Urdu marked

Tap Choose language and pick the language you want — in this example, Urdu. Use the search box to find it quickly.

You don't choose the other person's language. Whatever they speak — English, Arabic, Hindi, Tagalog… — is detected automatically.

A crossed-out speaker icon next to a language means your phone can show it but has no voice to read it aloud. Tap Add voices to install one in your phone's text-to-speech settings.

Your choice appears at the top right, e.g. → اردو. Tap it to change it any time.

3Start translating

Tap the microphone button. It turns green and counts the time:

Listening 0:03 with the stop button

Point the microphone at whoever is speaking — with glasses on, just look at them. Each sentence appears as a card. Tap the button again to stop.

Two sentences in English translated into Urdu
1Each card shows what was heard and the language it was in (top), and the translation (below the green line). With voice on, the translation is also read out. 2Type to translate — when glasses aren't connected, you can type a sentence and tap the arrow. Nothing is heard while you type. 3Without glasses, this reminder explains the catch: on the loudspeaker, anything said while a translation is playing is missed. Earphones or Text only avoid that.

Languages written right-to-left, like Urdu and Arabic, are shown right-to-left.

4Save, share or clear

Once there's at least one card, two buttons appear at the top:

Save and menu buttons in the translation top bar
1Save — keeps the whole conversation in your notes. You'll see “Saved to your notes.” 2Menu — Share… sends the text to WhatsApp, email or any app; Clear empties the screen to start fresh.

Clear asks first. It only empties this screen — anything you saved stays in your notes.
